Women in Technical and Applied Arts Scholarship

Women studying technical or applied arts roles within cultural industries where they are often underrepresented in their field can apply.

Overview

The Women in Technical and Applied Arts Scholarship will open in January 2025.

The Women in Technical and Applied Arts Scholarship supports women pursuing post-secondary education in technical roles within cultural industries, who are often underrepresented in these fields.

Funding

  • $50,000 is available for this scholarship
  • 20 individuals will receive $2,500 each for their studies

Eligibility

Eligible applicants

Applicants must:

  • identify as a woman
  • be studying in technical roles for careers in cultural industries, in programs like audio or film production, game design, etc., where they are generally underrepresented
  • be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person (visa students are not eligible)
  • be a resident of Alberta. To be considered, one of the following conditions must apply:
    • one parent, or legal guardian has maintained permanent residence in Alberta for at least 12 consecutive months immediately prior to commencing post-secondary studies
    • Alberta is the last place the student has lived for 6 consecutive months immediately prior to commencing post-secondary studies
    • the student’s spouse or partner has maintained permanent residence in Alberta for 6 consecutive months prior to the person attending post-secondary
  • There is no age limit.
  • Applicants can apply to both this scholarship and the Persons Case Scholarship, but they cannot be awarded both scholarships during the same calendar year.

Ineligible applicants

  • High school students or below are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
  • Visa students are not eligible.

How to apply

We only accept applications through Grant Administration Tracking and Evaluation (GATE) online application system.

  • To apply for a scholarship through GATE, you require a username and password to access the system.
  • Request a GATE username and password during the scholarship's open intake period.
  • Once the scholarship has opened, we will update the application deadline, and you must submit your application through GATE before the deadline.
  • Give the system time to process your application so that we receive notification of your submission before the deadline passes.
  • Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Step 1. GATE user registration

First-time applicants will require a GATE username and password.

Once the initial intake has opened in January 2025, email us at [email protected] to request your GATE registration.

We ask that students not applying to other Alberta Arts, Culture and Status of Women scholarship programs refrain from requesting GATE accounts until the Women in Technical and Applied Arts Scholarship opens.

In the email, include:

  • your legal name
  • the scholarships you are applying for administered by Alberta Arts, Culture and Status of Women
  • your email address – ensure email address is correct as successful applicants will be receiving tax related documentation via email

Your GATE username and password will be sent to the email address provided.

Step 2. Complete the application

Once you have received your username and password, log in and complete your application.
