Summer student opportunities

Post-secondary students returning to school in the fall can apply for summer positions to gain workplace skills and career experience.

Overview

The APS is looking for motivated, energetic and self-starting summer students who are interested in developing valuable workplace skills and building a career through employment with the Alberta Public Service.

In a supportive and supervised environment, you will gain practical experience in important aspects of work for a variety of program, policy, or corporate teams.

Students are offered wage employment by a ministry or department with the opportunity to:

  • learn about the Alberta Public Service
  • develop workplace skills
  • gain career-related experience

Duration

Summer students are typically hired for a period of 2 to 4 months and provide assistance or support to various types of work. Opportunities typically begin in May and end in August.

Eligibility

To be eligible for student summer employment, individuals must be:

  • legally entitled to work in Canada
  • enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution or just recently graduated within the last 6 months
  • returning to academic studies in September

Step 3. Answer pre-application questions

Prior to submitting your resume, you will need to answer pre-application questions. The answers create a candidate profile which will help hiring managers search for matches for the summer opportunities available in their ministries.

Step 4. Submit your resume

Submit your resume and cover letter with the following information:

  • identify in your cover letter what type of work experience you are looking to gain
  • a summary of your relevant work history
