Alberta Indigenous Intern Program

Indigenous post-secondary grads can gain work experience in the Alberta Public Service and with Indigenous community partners.

Overview

The Alberta Indigenous Intern Program (AIIP) is a paid internship program that supports recent Indigenous post-secondary graduates. 

Working in one of the Alberta government’s ministries, interns will have an opportunity for professional and personal growth, mentorship, and skills development through work projects, training and events.

During the 2-year internship, interns will:

  • Year 1: work for 12 months in a provincial government ministry (host ministry)
  • Year 2: work for 6 months with an Indigenous community partner, or one that serves a large number of Indigenous people
  • Year 2: work for the final 6 months of the internship with the host ministry
     

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • self-identify as Indigenous with a letter of support from a First Nation, Band, Tribal Council, Metis Settlement, Métis Local, the Métis Nation of Alberta or an Indigenous business or organization
  • have graduated from an accredited university or college in the last 2 years
