Alberta's domestic and international offices play a key role in supporting Alberta's Intergovernmental and International Strategy to:
- advance Alberta’s interests domestically and internationally
- build and maintain strong relationships with federal, provincial, territorial and foreign governments
- increase market access for Alberta businesses
- strengthen the province's reputation abroad
- promote Alberta as a destination for international investment
Executive Council operates Alberta’s Ottawa office and the Alberta International Office (AIO) network that consists of offices in Canadian diplomatic posts abroad.

Guidelines for Alberta's posted staff apply to permanent or contract employees posted outside of Alberta, within or outside of Canada, for more than 6 months.
