Alberta Blue Cross’s individual benefit plan is available to individuals once they have lost coverage under an employer-sponsored benefit program. Individuals whose employer-sponsored group coverage was through Alberta Blue Cross (through health plans, dental plans or a health spending account) will receive preferred pricing if they purchase this new plan after leaving the public service.
The Alberta Blue Cross Retiree Benefit Plan provides 4 levels (Basic, Enhanced, Enhanced+ and Premium) of coverage for extended health, prescription drug, dental, and travel benefits. There is no medical review required and all dependents listed on an individual’s provincial or territorial health-care account are eligible for coverage. Participants are responsible for the full cost of their premiums.
Eligibility
To be eligible for enrolment, individuals must:
- have Alberta provincial health-care coverage at time of application
- be 50 years of age at the time of application
- apply for coverage within 90 days from loss of coverage under a group benefit plan
