Overview
If you have concerns about the conduct of a security worker, locksmith or investigator in Alberta, you can file a complaint against the person or business. These occupations include:
- security guard
- loss prevention
- security alarm responder
- body guard
- patrol dog handler
- private or in-house investigator
- locksmith
- automotive lock bypass worker
- locksmith equipment and sales
To make a complaint against a person
Step 1. Write a letter
Prepare a letter that:
- explains why you’re making a complaint
- describes the incident, including the date and time
- includes your contact information
Step 2. Send the letter
Send your letter within 90 days to the employer of the person you’re complaining about.
After you send your complaint
The employer will respond to your complaint in writing within 30 days.
The employer can try to resolve your complaint through:
- an informal resolution between you and the other person, or
- a formal investigation
After a formal investigation, you’ll be notified of the employer’s decision in writing within 90 days.
If your complaint isn’t resolved
You can request a review within 30 days of getting the employer’s decision:
