Before you start

Read the following before requesting services from the Community Development Unit (CDU).

  • If you are looking for training related to board governance, visit the Non-profit Learning Centre to access online courses, live webinars, and learning resources.
  • If you have a question or are looking for a quick, information coaching conversation, the CDU offers coaching through a call line (310-0000) 780-963-2281 or email at communitydevelopment@gov.ab.ca. 

There is no need to fill in the service request form if you only want to talk to someone about your organization. If after the coaching discussion, you determine you would like to request other CDU services, you can complete the online service request form.

Eligibility

The CDU provides (no fee for service, no charge to client) customized capacity building services for non-profit organizations, charitable organizations, social profit organizations, unincorporated collaboratives and committees operating primarily for public benefit.

Service request process

  • Submit the online service request form 6-8 weeks in advance of the anticipated start.
  • Decisions may take 1-2 weeks.
  • If you haven’t heard back in 2 weeks please contact the Community Development Unit at (310-0000) 780-963-2281 or email communitydevelopment@gov.ab.ca.
  • Some facilitated sessions can be accomplished online, which helps us more efficiently manage our resources to support more organizations. The CDU effectively facilitates in-person, online and hybrid (concurrent in-person and online).
  • Preference will be given to requests that are online (versus in-person), public benefit non-profit organizations, or are multi-group in nature.
  • If approved, groups may need to be flexible with their dates.
  • Due to staffing resources and service demand, the CDU may not be able to meet all service requests.
