Little Brown Myotis and Northern Myotis Bat Recovery Plan engagement

Albertans were invited to provide input on a draft Little Brown Myotis and Northern Myotis Bat Recovery Plan.

Overview

Albertans were invited to provide feedback to help finalize a recovery plan that supports the endangered little brown myotis and northern myotis bats.

These species are experiencing severe population declines across North America from a fungal disease called White-nose syndrome. Millions of bats have died from this disease since 2006, with some eastern populations declining by 90%. We are formally monitoring and tracking the disease spread.

Efforts to minimize spread of the fungus are important, but it will move throughout Alberta where site conditions are suitable. Protecting habitat to support bat populations is critical for recovery.
