The Government of Canada requires AAIP to dedicate at least 85% of the total 2024 nominations to temporary foreign workers for Alberta to issue work permit support letters under the ‘Temporary Public Policy to Facilitate Work Permits for Prospective Provincial Nominee Program Candidates.’ To meet this requirement, people with work permits must be the focus for remaining Rural Renewal Stream nominations.

Entrepreneur stream processing times and volumes vary due to comprehensive documentation and verification needs. Expiring work permits

Temporary measure for select applicants with work permits expiring in 2024

Alberta Opportunity and Rural Renewal Stream applicants with a work permit that expires in 2024 are being evaluated under the ‘Temporary Public Policy to Facilitate Work Permits for Prospective Provincial Nominee Program Candidates’ (public policy) to determine if a letter in support of a work permit can be issued and will therefore not have their application for nomination assessed until at least 2025.

These applications will not be assessed for a nomination in 2024. Full application processing will be postponed until 2025 or 2026, after a work permit extension under the public policy has been obtained. The following table estimates the volume of applicants who may benefit from this agreement.
