Points grid clarification

The worker expression of interest system, launched September 30, 2024, uses a points-based approach to select skilled economic immigrants for Alberta’s labour market needs and priorities.

In AAIP’s Expression of Interest system, a candidate’s scored ranking will determine if they will be invited to apply for a nomination.

  • Points will be assigned based on education, work experience, in-demand occupation and other critieria.
  • Draw frequency will be based on provincial need and subject to change during the year.
  • Expressions of interest in the selection pool will expire after 12 months. Candidates can then submit a new expression of interest.

The Worker Expression of Interest Points Grid Clarification provides more information and answers to common questions about how to claim points.

National Occupational Classification

The National Occupational Classification (NOC) system, developed by the federal government, classifies every job in Canada and assigns it a 5-digit National Occupational Classification code.

Your NOC code will determine your eligibility to apply to the AAIP.

Use the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Find your NOC tool to determine the NOC code that best fits your occupation.

IQAS

The International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) will assess your foreign educational credentials and provide information on how your credentials compare to educational standards in Canada.

Translation

The AAIP accepts educational documents, work reference letters or other documents in English or French. Documents in other languages may require translation. Details on translation requirements are included in AAIP Document Checklists for each stream.
