Chronic wasting disease in farmed cervids

CWD is a progressive, fatal, degenerative disease of the brain of farmed and wild cervids including elk, deer and moose.

Introduction

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) belongs to a group of related diseases called Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs). This fatal degenerative disease occurs in both farmed and wild cervids. Currently, no treatments or vaccines are available for CWD.
