Description: Severe thunderstorm warning in effect

At 6:37 p.m. MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a dangerous thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, golf ball to tennis ball size hail and heavy rain.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

Area: M.D. of Bighorn near Ghost River Wilderness

  • Bighorn No. 8
  • Canmore
  • Ghost Lake
  • Waiparous
  • Stoney 142, 143, 144
  • Rocky View No. 44
  • Cochrane

Action to take:

  • Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches
  • Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year
  • Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
