Unit price averages
Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors maintains a record of unit prices. The report is based on the cumulative average of the prices from the 3 lowest bids on recent tenders, weighted by bid.

Monthly Price Index
In December 2023, Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) updated the way calculations are performed for the Monthly Price Index for Diesel Fuel (MPI) to align with the retails rates published by Statistics Canada.
As such, TEC will now share two tables to provide the most information to their industry partners.
Table 1: Monthly Price Index for Diesel Fuel (MPI) calculation based on the average Edmonton and Calgary Rack Rates for low sulphur diesel as published by the Oil Price Information Services (OPIS):
The MPI noted in the below table (cents/litre) was calculated as the average of the first 3 Mondays of each month. In the event of a statutory holiday, it will be calculated based on the next business day:

Table 2: Monthly Price Index for Diesel Fuel (MPI) calculation based on the numerical average of Edmonton and Calgary values for Monthly Average Retail Prices for diesel fuel as published by Statistics Canada Table 18-10-0001-01:
The MPI noted in the below table (cents/litre) was calculated as the average retail prices, by geography. This table will be updated monthly, to share the Statistics Canada information.
