Cloud Computing and Privacy Toolkit
The Cloud Computing and Privacy Toolkit was developed to help support effective governance and decision making about cloud computing and privacy-related issues in K to 12 school authorities across Alberta. The toolkit was developed in consultation with a working group comprised of representatives from K to 12 school authorities, Alberta School Boards Association, the College of Alberta School Superintendents, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta, Alberta Education and Jurisdiction Technology Contacts.
SuperNet Service Funding
The Alberta government is committed to improving broadband connectivity, and Alberta Education provides SuperNet Service Funding across the province’s K to 12 education sector.
SuperNet Service Funding is $800 per month per site, which is designed to offset the increased costs of next generation SuperNet services. This funding reflects an evolving reality in schools where bandwidth demand is growing due to the rising use of online content, such as streaming video, and the increase in the amount of computers and devices used in schools to support learning.
Videoconferencing
Videoconferencing units in schools across the province enables Alberta students to access unique learning opportunities from remote courses to the ability to interact with subject matter experts. It can also be used for the remote delivery of student services and professional learning for teachers.
