About the artist
Alberta’s fourth Artist in Residence was Sharon Rose Kootenay. A life-long maker of traditional art forms, Sharon uses hide, beads, and thread and needle to create fine craft that illustrates regional history, significant family events, and personal perspectives.
Sharon spent her residency creating a two-part beadwork and mixed medium project, Kihohkewin/Gone Visiting and Pihtikwe/Come In! Through this project, she:
- created approximately 20 new beadwork and other fine craft artworks
- hosted art exhibitions in Smoky Lake, St. Albert, Edmonton, and Calgary
- taught workshops while participating in community visits and attending art events across the province
