Albertans who have been affected by the increase in rural crime shared their experiences and provided feedback on ways to address rural crime, including: community safety, policing and crime reduction measures.

In person
The minister of Justice and Solicitor General visited communities across the province to hear from residents, business owners, rural crime watch groups and local officials.
Outcomes
- Bill 27: the Trespass Statutes (Protecting Law-abiding Property Owners) Act was introduced on November 19, 2019 to strengthen protections for property owners and ensure trespassers face the proper consequences for their actions.
- Bill 18: the Corrections (Alberta Parole Board) Amendment Act was introduced on June 1, 2020 to create the Alberta Parole Board to provide a fairer, faster, more responsive and responsible justice system.
Additional actions continue to be considered as part of implementing our rural crime strategy.
