The rest of the world is discovering what Albertans already know: Alberta is a beautiful and dynamic province, with gorgeous locales, welcoming people, and diverse cultures and experiences. As Alberta’s tourism economy reaches new heights, nominations and awards are rolling in.

Most recently, Alberta has been nominated for the Most Desirable Region (Rest of the World) category in the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards 2024. Wanderlust Travel Media magazine is the UK’s longest-running travel magazine and is one of the most respected travel resources in the industry. Earlier this year, Wanderlust also featured Lake Louise on their magazine cover and highlighted Calgary as a top sustainable travel destination in North America.

“I'm proud that Alberta is getting the recognition it deserves on the world stage thanks to the hard work of Travel Alberta and our tourism industry partners. It’s clear the world wants more Alberta! This feels especially appropriate today, on World Tourism Day, as we welcome visitors to Canada’s wild side and invite them to experience all Alberta has to offer.”

Joseph Schow, Minister, Tourism and Sport

In addition, Travel Alberta, the province’s destination management organization, has received several awards for their work to support tourism in the province. They recently received two Skift IDEA awards in industry innovation and travel technology for identifying 10 zones in Alberta to be developed as world-class tourism destinations. Travel Alberta’s 3D technology to help visitors plan unique itineraries and explore the province also received the International Data Corporation Awards, and their website won the Web Excellence awards in the Tourism Website and Accessibility Website categories.

“These awards highlight the dedication of Alberta’s passionate tourism entrepreneurs who work tirelessly to create and deliver outstanding visitor experiences, in all corners of the province. Together, as Team Alberta, we’re continually innovating to attract travellers from around the globe and invite them to discover why Alberta is truly Canada’s Wild Side.”

Tannis Gaffney, Chief Marketing Officer, Travel Alberta

In March 2024, two Travel Alberta films, respectively titled To Be Albertan and Sky Painter, won four awards at the Japan World’s Tourism Film Festival. The video To Be Albertan was also awarded silver in the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards for the Tourism Films – Regions category in October 2023.

Each year, Sept. 27 is recognized as World Tourism Day—a day to celebrate tourism as a driver of economic growth, development and sustainability.
