Alberta is strengthening its judiciary and improving access to justice to meet demand with this appointment.

Justices of the peace oversee matters ranging from provincial offences to criminal law. In Alberta, justices of the peace sit in provincial offence courts in Edmonton, Calgary, Medicine Hat, Red Deer, Lethbridge and Grande Prairie, as well as hearing offices in Edmonton and Calgary.

The new appointment will be based in Calgary, bringing the total number of justices of the peace in Alberta to 46.

“The work justices of the peace do is critical to making sure every Albertan has timely access to the justice system. I would like to congratulate newly appointed justice of the peace Azim and wish her success in her new role.”

Mickey Amery, Minister of Justice

Azim attended law school at the University of Southampton in England and completed her Canadian accreditation at the University of Toronto in 2008. She is currently a lawyer with KH Dunkley Law Group in Calgary.
