“On this day in 1876, Her Majesty the Queen signed Treaty 6 at Fort Carlton, Sask., with 50 First Nations stretching from the Athabasca River to the Red Deer River and from the Rocky Mountains to the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border.
“The signing of Treaty 6 brought the Plains and Wood Cree, Nakota, Saulteaux and Dene people into an agreement with the Crown.
“This agreement is central to our shared history in the place we call Alberta - and critical to our shared future as we move forward as partners in reconciliation.
“Recently, Alberta’s government formalized its own government-to-government commitment with the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations by signing a relationship agreement to work together on areas of mutual interest.
“Alberta’s government looks forward to continued collaboration with the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations as we walk the path toward reconciliation. We know that we can build a bright future together.”
