Associate Minister Nally will travel to Japan and South Korea from May 20-28 to strengthen Alberta’s position in one of the world’s fastest-growing energy regions.
The trip will help to establish Alberta natural gas products – including clean hydrogen and liquefied natural gas – as options for energy security and lower emissions.
“Alberta can and should be a global leader in hydrogen and liquefied natural gas. Canada moved too slowly on the first wave of global LNG investment and now other regions are far more advanced in their global position. It is vitally important to Alberta’s energy future and for global energy security that we build and strengthen access to Asian markets, helping capture a large market share before the window of opportunity closes. Alberta’s resources can help reduce emissions and support energy security at the same time.”
The World Gas Conference, held in Daegu, Korea, is one of the world’s largest annual energy conventions, with representatives from governments, businesses and non-governmental organizations from Europe, North America, Central and South America, Africa and Asia.
The mission, which is years in the making, will include meetings in Japan and South Korea with potential energy customers, partners and investors in Alberta’s energy sector, helping establish relationships to help drive future growth.
As part of the mission, the associate minister will also focus on supporting the work done by Alberta energy companies to expand new market demand for gas resources and leverage new opportunities across the natural gas value chains. The trip follows recent investment announcements made in hydrogen and other natural gas products by companies based in Asia.
Associate Minister Nally will be travelling with one staff member and one representative from the Department of Energy. Mission expenses will be posted on the travel and expense disclosure page.
Alberta’s government is committed to working with its national and international partners to advance shared interests that can lead to new opportunities for people and businesses in Alberta and around the world.
