Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act engagement

Construction industry can share their experiences with the Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act (PPCLA) and regulations since coming into force on August 29, 2022.

Overview

We are seeking input from the construction industry to understand their experiences with the Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act (PPCLA) and regulations since coming into force on August 29, 2022, to help identify potential changes to improve the legislation and begin exploration of potentially applying payment principles to Government of Alberta projects.

The PPCLA was designed to capture private sector projects and exclude projects under the Public Works Act. Prompt payment rules establish payment timelines and an adjudication process for contractors and subcontractors.
