The committee reviewed input and developed recommendations to:

  • improve outcomes
  • clarify roles and responsibilities
  • improve program efficiency and sustainability
  • reduce red tape
  • encourage innovation

Outcomes and next steps

The committee delivered their recommendations to the government in the fall of 2021, and a report was finalized for sharing on December 16, 2021.

An action committee is currently being formed to implement recommendations provided in the report related to needs assessment.

Committee mandate

The committee’s work built on feedback provided by Albertans during the 2018-19 PDD Review and the Minister’s Disability Advisory Forums.

Participants in the review and forums included self-advocates, families, community disability workers, service providers, government staff, community organizations and members of the public.

The committee focused on 5 key areas:

  • the program mandate
  • how needs are assessed
  • expanding Family Managed Services
  • alternative home-living supports
  • delivery models and the role of government and civil society
