Dr. Gopal Bhatta has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to community service, dedicating over 2,000 hours of volunteer work in the past 2 years to initiatives that have profoundly impacted Calgary’s racialized communities.
Dr. Bhatta has become a driving force behind multiple initiatives to enhance social inclusion and mental health and that also promote intergenerational and intercultural learning. Noticing the harmful effects of increased screen time on children and youth, Dr. Bhatta designed and implemented a number of screen free activities intended to offer youth healthy alternatives that encourage creativity, physical activity and social interaction.
To reduce social isolation, Dr. Bhatta has spearheaded activities that have brought joy and companionship to seniors. His organizational skill and passion for community service are highlighted by the successful hosting of an event that brought together over 40 racialized communities and 10,000 spectators, creating a celebration that fostered multiculturalism and cultural exchange on an unprecedented scale.
