A quick list of mineral royalty rates and the related royalty regulation.

Royalty rates

This chart shows Alberta-owned metallic and industrial minerals. They are administered by Alberta Energy and Minerals.

Royalty reporting and payment

Royalty reporting and payment are required for Rock-hosted minerals leases.

Follow these instructions:

  • Royalty reports are to be submitted via ETS (Electronic Transfer System)
  • Royalty reports may be submitted by mail or email to the Coal and Mineral Development Unit (see Contact, below)
  • Royalties may be paid by cheque or direct deposit (Electronic Funds Transfer). Ensure that the payment has the account number and amount to be allocated to the account. Failure to do so could result in the payment being returned.

By January 31 of the production year, declare non-production.

By January 31 of the year following the production year, confirm no production occurred.

No royalty payment is required.

Report and payment are due no later than the last day of the month following the quarter.
Per cent of production value (placer minerals royalty)For any quarter in which a sale of placer minerals occurred, report and payment are due no later than the last day of the month following that quarter.

Quarriable minerals production and royalty report

Use this form to report quarterly on production and royalties payable to the Crown and/or to declare and confirm no production for the calendar year. This report is due on or before the last day of the month following the production quarter. The form is required when submitting royalties through Electronic Transfer System (ETS).

Placer minerals production and royalty report

Use this form to report on placer mineral sales and royalties for those quarters in which placer mineral sale or disposition occurs. Use it to report annually if no production/sale occurs.

This report is due on or before the last day of the month following the production quarter. The form is required when submitting royalties through ETS.

Salt production and royalty report

Use this form to report quarterly on production and royalties payable to the Crown. It is also used to declare and confirm no production for the calendar year.

This report is due on or before the last day of the month following the production quarter. It is required when submitting royalties through ETS.

Metallic mineral royalty reporting

No forms are available for reporting royalties using the revenue-minus-cost royalty regime. This is 1% of mine mouth revenue or 12% of net revenue.

Preauthorized debit royalty payments

Complete and submit this form if you wish to authorize electronic debit to make royalty payments.

Send the completed form to Financial Services (see last page of form).

Applications received before the 5th-last day of the month will be processed that month. Applications received after that will be processed at the end of the following month.
