Intermunicipal disputes

Find Land and Property Rights Tribunal decisions and information about land planning disputes between municipalities.

Overview

The Land and Property Rights Tribunal (LPRT), formerly the Municipal Government Board, makes decisions on disputes between municipalities when one municipality believes the adoption or amendment of a land use bylaw or statutory plan by a neighbouring municipality will cause detriment. Mediation happens but separately from the Tribunal's decision process).

The neighbouring municipality may file an appeal with the Tribunal within 30 days of the adoption of the bylaw. View Previous decisions on disputes.

Statutory plans under the Municipal Government Act are defined as Intermunicipal Development Plans, Municipal Development Plans, Area Structure Plans or Area Redevelopment Plans. These are adopted and amended by bylaw.
