Inclusive Spaces Program Grant

Licenced early learning and child care programs can apply for funding to make their existing spaces, facilities and programs more inclusive.

Important dates

Current intake deadline: January 31, 2025

Next application intake: April or May 2025

Overview

Eligible applicants for the Inclusive Spaces Program Grant may submit proposals that improve access to existing child care programs through either of 2 streams:

  1. Infrastructure improvements – Renovations to existing facilities to enhance accessibility and inclusivity, such as wheelchair ramps, elevators or adaptive washrooms.
  2. Equipment and resource acquisition – Purchasing items that promote inclusion, such as assistive technology, sensory equipment, culturally relevant materials or adaptive play structures.

Eligible projects must not take more than 12 months to complete and successful applicants will receive grant funds in installments. Half of the project funds will be provided up front so projects can begin immediately. The remaining funds will be provided when the applicant submits their final report to Jobs, Economy and Trade.

Funding

The Alberta government has committed a maximum of $15 million over 2 years for the Inclusive Spaces Program Grant (2024–26).

Approved applicants are eligible to receive funding based on project size and complexity.

Eligibility

Existing non-profit facilities, private facilities and family day home agencies – Out-of-school care programs are ineligible for funding.

  • This grant funding cannot be used for new spaces or expansions.

How to apply

Download the application form and program guide for details on how to submit your application.

Reporting requirements

Successful applicants will receive a grant agreement. This agreement must be signed and returned before the specified deadline.

The grant agreement will outline the terms and conditions of support, as well as how and when to report the financial status and outcomes of funded projects. Before the release of any payment, this agreement must be signed by both parties:

  • recipient (organization’s representative)
  • representative from Jobs, Economy and Trade

Any significant variations in project scope or other requirements of the contract must be agreed to by both parties.

Application status

Current applications are open until January 31, 2025.

Applications will be reviewed for merit after the intake closes. All applicants will be notified by email once their application is reviewed.
