Personal property liens – Find a registration

Perform a personal property search before purchasing property to check if any liens are registered against the property.

How to find a registration

Step 1. Download and fill out a search form

Individual debtor name

Search for the legal name of an individual debtor.

Search for a legal name of a business debtor

Serial number

Search for the serial number of a:

  • motor vehicle
  • trailer
  • mobile home
  • designated manufactured mobile home
  • aircraft
  • boat
  • outboard motor for a boat
  • farm vehicle (tractor/combine)

Registration number

Search for a specific registration number

Distribution seizure

Search the legal name of one or more individual or business debtors.

Certificate of expired/discharged registration

Search for an expired or discharged registration number

Step 2. Submit the request at a registry agent

You can search through any registry agent office in Alberta.

Step 3. After you submit the request

A search result will be one of the following:

  • exact match
  • inexact match
  • no match
  • both exact and inexact matches

If any inexact matches are shown they may need to be checked further. The customer should either do another search on the inexact name or a registration number search for that specific registration.

Any questions about a search result should be directed to the party that is responsible for registering the interest.
