File a complaint or report a privacy breach

Find steps to take when seeking an independent review of a FOIP-related decision made by a public-sector body in Alberta.

Overview

If a public-sector body, organization or health custodian has not responded adequately to your access to information request; or you have concerns with how they collected, used, or disclosed your personal information, there are steps available to you to address your concerns.

Request to access information response

If you disagree or have questions about how a public-sector body, organization or health custodian has responded to your access to information request, your first step is to contact the organization who issued the decision to resolve the matter. Find a FOIP Coordinator.

File a complaint

If your access to information request concern has not been resolved or you disagree with the response you received, you may file a complaint with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) of Alberta.

Privacy breach

If you believe an Alberta government department inappropriately collected, used, or disclosed your personal information, you can submit a complaint by emailing: [email protected].

For all other privacy breaches, individuals and organizations can report a privacy breach with the Alberta OIPC.
