Diabetes working group

Members will explore opportunities to improve diabetes care and strengthen Alberta’s health care system.

Overview

A diabetes working group has been established to review diabetes care in Alberta and provide recommendations to improve diabetes prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management.

Group members will identify gaps in Alberta’s diabetes treatment and provide recommendations to improve care for Albertans at risk for and living with diabetes. Those recommendations will inform a provincial diabetes strategy.

The working group will consider a wide variety of important focus areas identified for diabetes improvement, including the health care system, education and training, research and innovation, surveillance and data collection, and knowledge sharing.

Input received

Albertans were invited to email their suggestions on improving diabetes care and prevention to the diabetes working group between fall 2023 and spring 2024.

Working group mandate

The diabetes working group will work together for one year to advise the Minister of Health on issues and solutions for improving Alberta’s diabetes care pathway.
