Reporting requirements
The Municipal Government Act requires that each municipality and each regional services commission prepare annual audited financial statements and a financial information return. Both reports should be returned to Alberta Municipal Affairs by May 1 of each year.

Annual Report Template
The Town of New Sampleford Annual Report Template was developed by Municipal Affairs as a resource for municipalities considering the development and publication of annual reports to provide additional financial and operational information to the public.
Annual reports are not legislatively required, but they are considered a financial reporting best practice. The template developed is based on Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) best practices for annual reports and has been reviewed and endorsed by the Alberta chapter of the GFOA.
