While in Montreal, Premier Smith will be focused on building connections and opportunities between Alberta and Quebec in meetings with Quebec-based private sector leaders in energy, manufacturing, aviation and transportation.
Discussions will be centered on highlighting Alberta as a partner of choice for trade and investment, as well as identifying opportunities to remove red tape and barriers to interprovincial trade.
“As a nation, we are facing a great amount of uncertainty when it comes to our relationship with the United States and the broader geopolitical climate abroad. The time to be even more emboldened in our efforts to unite as a country is now. I am excited to build on Alberta’s long-standing friendships to find even more ways we can work towards the common goal of building and fortifying trade partnerships to better withstand external shocks.”
Premier Smith will be joined by Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors Devin Dreeshen for meetings with key leaders in the transportation sector.
Alberta and Quebec both have diverse economies with natural synergies across sectors like transportation and logistics, technology and innovation, mining and agri-food, which will help set the stage for enhanced collaboration, expanded export capacity and increased job-creating investments.
Premier Smith will travel with five staff members. Mission expenses will be posted on the travel and expense disclosure page.
While in Ottawa, Premier Smith will meet with international representatives interested in enhancing their partnerships with Alberta amid trade uncertainties.
Alberta’s government is committed to working with its provincial, territorial, national and international partners to advance shared interests that can lead to new opportunities for people and businesses in Alberta and around the world.
