“Today, Albertans, Canadians and the global community recognize the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and the efforts of individuals and organizations working tirelessly to eliminate racial discrimination from society.

“It has been 60 years since the start of the UN’s international human rights treaties and in that time great strides have been made by organizations, individuals and governments to address and reduce racial discrimination.

“Alberta’s government is committed to the goal of eliminating racism and supporting the many diverse backgrounds and cultures of the people in our province. We remain committed to funding community-led solutions through the Anti-Racism and Ethnocultural Grant programs, and implementing the recommendations outlined in the Alberta Anti-Racism Action Plan.

“Although progress continues to be made, we understand that there is always more to do to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, can prosper and thrive in Alberta. On this International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, let us raise our voices and recommit to fighting racism and discrimination. Together, we are continuing to foster a diverse and inclusive province.”
