“On Holodomor Memorial Day, we honour the lives tragically lost under the brutal, authoritarian communist regime of the former Soviet Union.

“Between 1932 and 1933, Joseph Stalin perpetrated one of history’s most profound atrocities against the people of Ukraine. The forced confiscation of farmers’ crops led to mass starvation and famine that claimed the lives of millions of Ukrainian citizens, devastating families and communities and inflicting lasting harm on the vibrant Ukrainian culture.

“In light of Russia’s continuing war in Ukraine today, let us join together as Albertans to reflect on our shared history with the Ukrainian people and express solidarity with them during this difficult time.”
