Alberta’s government is proud to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our Olympians and Paralympians, who demonstrated dedication and sportsmanship and represented their province brilliantly at the 2024 Paris Games.
Alberta’s Olympians and Paralympians were formally recognized in the Alberta legislature, as members of the legislature joined all Albertans in applauding their contributions to sport and their roles as ambassadors for our province.

Throughout the day, the athletes took part in several activities to share their passion for athletic excellence and connect with Albertans. Two Albertan Olympians, Michelle and Katherine Plouffe, joined Minister Joseph Schow during a visit to Holy Family Catholic School to speak to elementary and junior high students about the power of sport and its impact on one’s life. The Plouffe sisters are Edmonton locals and former students of Holy Family Catholic School, who went on to compete on Canada’s 3x3 women’s basketball team at several Olympic games, including Paris 2024.

The Alberta government’s Podium Alberta program, also known as the Alberta High Performance Athlete Assistance Program, supports Alberta’s high-performing athletes by helping them continue their training for athletic excellence at the highest levels of national and international competitions, including the Olympics and Paralympics. Since 2008, the Podium Alberta Program has provided almost $14 million in grants to 1,025 athletes, including Alberta’s Olympians and Paralympians.
