As a result of a number of non-compliances, three Little Scholars programs in Calgary were placed on probationary licences with a term to expire Aug. 30. Since the probationary license was issued, Child Care Licensing has worked with the programs through enhanced monitoring to support them in returning to compliance.

Due to ongoing concerns and increased risk, Child Care Licensing determined that there was an imminent danger to the health, safety and well-being of children attending the programs, resulting in the immediate cancellation of Little Scholars’ licences, effective Aug. 12. The closure of these three programs will affect about 297 children.

Parents affected by the closure of the programs were notified in person on Aug. 12. Parents not informed in person will be notified by email as soon as the contact information is provided by the child care operator. In addition, the Notice of Cancellation, which describes the reason for a licence cancellation, will be posted on the door of each facility.

Jobs, Economy and Trade will continue to provide support and provide information and assistance to families looking for alternative child-care options.

Anyone with concerns about a child-care program in their community or need to report an incident, is encouraged to call Child Care Connect toll-free at 1-844-644-5165.
