While in Richland, MLA Rowswell will join state legislators from across the U.S. at a series of educational sessions and meetings from July 12-17 about North America’s energy ecosystem. MLA Rowswell will reinforce Alberta’s role as a reliable energy supplier, share Alberta’s priorities for an integrated energy market that provides opportunities for Alberta’s energy sector and promote the province as a global leader in responsible energy development and emissions reduction.

Founded in 2009 by the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER), University of Idaho and U.S. Department of Energy, LEHI is an important forum for emerging leaders in energy policy to network, build relationships, share knowledge and enhance their ability to ensure a stable, secure and affordable energy supply and delivery system between Canada and the U.S.

“Strengthening market access for Alberta’s energy products is a key priority for our province. That is why it is critically important to leverage opportunities like this to gather leading-edge information about the energy infrastructure citizens across the continent depend on, and strengthen our ties with key decision-makers so we can work together to make mutually beneficial policy decisions that will grow our energy industry and create jobs for Albertans.”

Garth Rowswell, MLA for Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright and Alberta’s delegate to PNWER

The 60-hour program covers key topics such as opportunities to diversify North America’s energy mix, examining North American energy infrastructure, policy options, regulations, financial implications, market impacts and more.

The LEHI is a two-part program with the second session taking place in Washington, D.C. in the fall.

Over the past decade, LEHI has educated more than 400 elected officials from across the U.S. and Canada, including state and provincial legislators, governors, advisors and policymakers.

Mission expenses will be posted on the travel and expense disclosure page.
