“As the days of autumn grow shorter, it’s natural to find ourselves seeking more light. That’s what Diwali, the festival of light, is all about. It’s a reminder that light prevails over darkness, that harmony among people prevails over discord.

“We join our fellow Albertans of the Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist faiths as they celebrate this holy time of year. They fill our world with their own light as they practise kindness, compassion and care. They reach out to help others. They give the best of themselves and, in so doing, make this province better.

“We believe that Albertans are stronger together, and that diversity is one of our great strengths. That’s the spirit of Diwali, too. It will be front and centre as Albertans share love and hospitality this week.

“I wish everyone a blessed Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas and a prosperous year ahead.”
