“A year ago, six men died and others were injured in a horrible attack at their place of worship. Today, we remember them.

“The attack was a reminder that extreme hatred still lives among us. No group of people gathered to pray should have to worry about their safety, but fear is precisely what these hateful acts seek to accomplish.

“Yet we did not, and we will not, give in to hatred and lies and intolerance. Instead we choose love. We choose what is true and right and just.

“As Albertans, we know our strength is in our diversity. A year ago, we stood together in solidarity with all Muslim Canadians and all of those who were grieving in Quebec, and we continue to stand with them today.

“Alberta belongs to each and every one of us, and we will continue working together to fight Islamophobia and build a more accepting, inclusive society."
