From March 30 to April 6, the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo hosted a virtual potluck event, giving community members an opportunity to share their favourite comfort dishes remotely. “By the end of the week, we will have the table completely set in our virtual potluck,” said Therese Greenwood, the Multicultural Association’s executive director. “Every family has a go-to comfort food. We are inviting our community to come together online to share these dishes. We want to see everything from mushroom biryani, Jiggs dinner and Dutch green pea soup, to moose stew and bannock.”
The potluck is part of a series of online events called “Multicultural YMM: Messages from Home.” The series will celebrate games, songs, dances and books, and other traditional aspects that connect families. Events like the virtual multicultural potluck help communities stay connected, create cross-cultural understanding, and build resiliency.
