Alberta Centennial Award

The awards recognize outstanding Albertan students for service to their communities.

The 2024 applications are now closed.

The 2025 applications will open in January 2025.

Overview

The Alberta Centennial Award honours students who have contributed to their communities through outstanding characteristics in citizenship/social responsibility, leadership and community service. Each year, 25 young Albertans receive a $2,005 scholarship.

Eligibility

Only Alberta high school students who receive the Premier's Citizenship Award can be considered for the Alberta Centennial Award.

To be considered for the Alberta Centennial Award, the student must also be enrolled full-time in a post-secondary program for the fall or winter term.

Application process

Alberta high schools can each select one recipient for the Premier's Citizenship Award. Students may wish to contact their school administration to be considered.

Once a school has selected their recipient, the school must submit a completed and signed Alberta Citizenship Awards Application form on behalf of the student.

In order for their recipient to be considered for an Alberta Centennial Award, schools must check the corresponding box on page 4 of the application form and also submit:

  • Record of Accomplishments Chart
  • 2 letters of reference, no longer than 2 pages each, from:
    • someone who has known the nominee for at least 1 year either through school or community or volunteer activities
    • someone who knows the nominee well enough to support and/or elaborate on the nominee's activities and initiatives as outlined in the Record of Accomplishments Chart

Students and school administration should work together to compile and submit these documents.

The deadline for schools to submit nominations is June 1 of every year.
