June 4, 2012
Honourable Donald Scott, QC
Associate Minister of Accountability, Transparency and Transformation
103 Legislature Building
10800 - 97 Avenue
Edmonton AB T5K 2B6
Dear Associate Minister Scott:
Albertans have given this government a mandate for change. They expect us to deliver on a bold agenda. In doing this, there are some specific areas that require dedicated effort and focus. In your role as Associate Minister of Accountability, Transparency and Transformation, I expect you to assist the Minister of Service Alberta in discharging his responsibilities related to access to information and transparency.
Reporting to the Minister of Service Alberta, and working closely with your Cabinet colleagues, you will support the Ministry's actions to strengthen accountability and transparency, specifically by:
- Reviewing Alberta's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy legislation and making recommendations for amendments; and
- Developing Transparency legislation.
In carrying out your duties, I expect you to review best practices in other jurisdictions so the Government of Alberta is a leader in accountability and transparency.
Yours truly,
(original signed)
