Seniors Mandate

June 4, 2012

Honourable George VanderBurg
Associate Minister of Seniors
227 Legislature Building
10800 - 97 Avenue
Edmonton, AB T5K 2B6

Dear Associate Minister VanderBurg:

Albertans have given this government a mandate for change. They expect us to deliver on a bold agenda. In doing this, there are some specific areas that require dedicated effort and focus. In your role as Associate Minister of Seniors, I expect you to assist the Minister of Health in discharging his responsibilities related to seniors.

Reporting to the Minister of Health, you will lead the Ministry's programs and initiatives related to Seniors, specifically:

  • The Seniors Advocate;
  • Seniors housing;
  • Implementation of the Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program;
  • Implementation of the Elder Abuse Strategy; and
  • Implementation of the $500 seniors activity tax credit.

Working closely with the Minister of Health and your Cabinet colleagues, you will be expected to drive progress and results on these items, and carry any related policy proposals through government's decision making process to Cabinet.

Yours truly,
