Lactalis Canada Inc. has received conditional approval of an Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit (APITC) of up to $1.7 million to support modernization and expansion projects for its Alberta-based dairy processing facilities in Calgary and Lethbridge.
These investments will strengthen Alberta’s dairy supply chain by increasing processing capacity, building on safety processes and adopting advanced automation technologies. The projects will also support local dairy farmers through greater milk utilization, reducing environmental impacts and helping secure long-term manufacturing jobs. This will position Alberta as a leader in value-added dairy production.
“Alberta is an agriculture powerhouse partly because of our thriving value-added processing sector. The Agri-Processing Tax Credit helps builds on our province’s many other competitive advantages to attract large-scale investment in value-added ag manufacturing, stimulating our economy and creating more jobs for Albertans.”
“At Lactalis Canada, we are committed to enriching and nurturing the lives of Canadians by offering high-quality, nutritious dairy products. We are proud to partner with the Government of Alberta to support the continued growth of food manufacturing in the province. The Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit helps accelerate important investments in the dairy sector so that we can collectively create long-term value for local dairy farmers, our employees, communities where we operate and Canadians at large.”
The APITC provides a 12 per cent non-refundable, non-transferable tax credit when businesses invest $10 million or more in a project to build or expand a value-added agri-processing facility in Alberta. The tax credit is open to any food manufacturers and bio processors that add value to commodities like grains or meat or turn agricultural byproducts into new consumer or industrial goods. Up to $175 million in tax credits are available for each project.
