The annual Legislative Agricultural Chairs (LAC) Summit brings together provincial agriculture ministers and U.S. state legislators to examine issues that affect the North American agriculture sector.

“The United States is Alberta’s largest agricultural export market, worth nearly $4 billion annually. As we explore ways to further diversify and grow our agriculture sector, it is essential that we continue to work closely with our American neighbours to identify opportunities to strengthen our trade relationship and also deal with common challenges facing producers on both sides of the border.”

Oneil Carlier, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry

A key focus of the discussions will be the recent decision by the U.S. government to repeal mandatory Country of Origin Labelling requirements on Canadian beef and pork exports to the United States.

The summit agenda also includes topics such as water use, consumer trends, trade, value-added development, animal health, and forestry.

The estimated cost for travel, meals, accommodations, and hosting costs for Minister Carlier, one Minister’s office staff and two department officials is $16,940.
