The two leaders discussed a broad range of strategic and economic opportunities. In particular, they reiterated their support for the Energy East pipeline project - which will mean creating more jobs and refining in Canada.
“Our meeting builds on the progress we made with the Canadian Energy Strategy and helps us move forward on diversifying our economy and sustainably growing our energy industry. By demonstrating real leadership on the environment and climate change, we can reframe the discussion on the safest and most energy-efficient way to transport our energy products.”
The two leaders spoke at length on climate change and noted the important role innovation and technology will play in protecting the environment.
They also discussed areas where they can collaborate with the federal government, such as developing a respectful relationship with Indigenous peoples, addressing climate change and achieving a renewed softwood lumber agreement with the United States.
