BaseToBusiness is a program that empowers employers to tap into the skillsets of veterans and those retiring, releasing or transitioning from the Canadian Armed Forces.

Every year, thousands of members of the Canadian Armed Forces transition out of the military and bring with them many skills in a wide range of trades and professions. Many employers, however, experience difficulty distinguishing between military qualifications and their corresponding civilian standards. BaseToBusiness holds forums, seminars and develops customized military engagement strategies to raise employers’ awareness of the skills these prospective workers have.

“BaseToBusiness is a force multiplier for our retiring military members and Alberta industry. From the front lines to the front offices, hiring a veteran is just good business.”

Lt.-Gen. David Millar, Chief of Military Personnel

“Part of our mandate is to match people with jobs, and jobs with people. These partnerships are essential to achieving exactly that.”

Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour

“When the military develops things like duct tape, digital photography, cargo pants and global positioning systems, the private sector is quick to pick up on the innovations. When it comes to employing skilled people coming out of the military, there is work to be done.”

Melanie Mitra, CEO, Prospect

BaseToBusiness is a partnership between the Government of Alberta and Prospect. The program was developed with the input of representatives from the 3rd Canadian Division Support Base in Edmonton, the Department of National Defence and several employment service providers.
