“We know there is a direct relation between having safe, stable housing and a senior’s overall well-being. This investment helps ensure seniors can stay in their communities, close to family, friends and neighbours.”

Jeff Johnson, Minister of Seniors

“Our northeast communities welcome the 114 new affordable housing units being built for our seniors at Gilchrist Manor. These barrier-free units will help seniors maintain their independence and dignity, while ensuring they enjoy a greater quality of life surrounded by family, friends and their community.”

Yvonne Fritz, MLA for Calgary-Cross

The new lodge will be built to modern lodge standards, which include larger rooms for residents and modern fire and safety code systems. The Government of Alberta is investing $21.4 million towards this project.

Lodges across the province provide bed and sitting rooms, meals, housekeeping, other services, and recreational opportunities for low and moderate-income seniors who are functionally independent.

The Alberta government owns or supports 9,700 seniors lodge units throughout the province. Approximately 30 per cent of these are in larger urban communities.
