Auto Body Services Red Deer Ltd. and owner Harry Veenstra were found guilty in July of one count under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and three counts under the Water Act. Today, fines of $80,000 were imposed on the company and $15,000 on the owner.

The charges stemmed from events occurring between July 15- 21, 2010, when the company diverted water without approval.

A third party that was leasing land from the company was directed by Veenstra to pump storm waters from a retention pond on the property into a nearby ditch, flooding neighbouring private land. The flooding caused a landslide on a slope on the land and rendered other parts of the agricultural property unusable.
