Akshay Verma, Jim Hole and Ingrid Pederson, all of Edmonton, Mitchell Mulhall of Fort McMurray, Donna Du Bois of Three Hills and Gail Wolfe of Cold Lake were honoured at the annual Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards gala in Edmonton on December 5.
Special tribute was also paid to Tracy Stewart of Edmonton who has overcome significant challenges to amass an astounding 34,500 hours of service over her 20 years as volunteer at CapitalCare Norwood.
“The recipients of the 2014 Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards demonstrate the leadership and generous spirit shown by volunteers at work in communities across this province. I am proud to join with Albertans as we celebrate this year’s volunteer stars and the thousands of everyday heroes they represent.”

Six provincial Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards are handed out annually, coinciding with International Volunteer Day. Two awards are handed out in each category of youth, adult and senior volunteers. Since the inception of the awards in 2000, 97 volunteers have received the Stars of Alberta Award.
The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards program is an integral part of the Government of Alberta’s commitment to the province’s voluntary sector. Volunteer recognition programs help set a standard for service, encourage a sustained commitment to civic participation and inspire others to make volunteering a central part of their lives.
