“Alberta Health continues to work with Alberta Health Services and our Canadian counterparts to protect Albertans. We are committed to continuing to improve our ability to detect Ebola early and respond for as long as this state exists.”

Dr. James Talbot, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health

New resources for preparedness

  • A new 1-800 line was established on October 30 for Alberta Health Services (AHS) staff and physicians. This line is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and provides an additional source of support, guidance and information for AHS health-care professionals.
  • AHS’ Ebola webpage for health professionals was redesigned on October 31 to further improve the information accessibility.
  • Ebola Personal Protective Equipment Starter and Training packs have been distributed to all zones of Alberta Health Services.
  • Training and practice opportunities continue, with more than 200 Ebola education and training sessions having been offered in October alone. These opportunities include hands-on practice and personal protective equipment sessions; and table-top and simulation exercises, aided by the training packs.
  • The Government of Canada has made a commitment to try to deploy quarantine officers to all international airports.
  • The Public Health Agency of Canada has created Ebola Rapid Response Teams to deploy at the request of the provinces and territories. Alberta believes that our province has the appropriate expertise and resources available.
